Kesava Menon, an active volunteer in the Indian freedom struggle against the British. The word "Mathrubhumi" roughly translates to "mother land". It is the second most widely read newspaper daily in Kerala, after Malayala Manorama.[2] They also publish a variety of magazines and supplements including the prestigious weekly literary magazine, Mathrubhumi Azhchappathippu. Desabhimani is a Malayalam newspaper and the organ of the Kerala State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Started as a weekly in Kozhikode on September 6, 1942 and converted to a daily in 1946.[2] The paper now has nine different printing centres: Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, Kottayam, Trichur, Malappuram, Banglore and Bahrin. According to the National Readership Survey of 1995, Desabhimani was the third largest newspaper in Kerala.[3] At present, V. V. Dakshinamoorthi, secretariat member of the CPI(M) is the Chief Editor of the paper and E.P. Jayarajan, CPI(M) central committee member, the General Manager.

Mangalam Publications (India) Private Limited, is a publishing company in Kottayam, Kerala in India. It publishes daily newspaper and weekly magazines such as Mangalam Weekly, Balamangalam, Arogyamangalam Kanyaka and Cinema Mangalam in Malayalam language. They also publish some magazines in Kannada language. Printed from Kottayam, Kochi, Calicut, Trivandrum, Idukki, Kannur and Trichur, Mangalam is the sixth most circulated Malayalam daily.[1]
