Like every year, the time has come for state popular snake-boat race. Which is held on the 2nd saturday of August every year in the Punnamada Lake near Alappuzha, Kerala, India.

It all started when the first prime minister of free India, visited Kerala in 1952. After an overwhelming experience Mr. Nehru decided to donate an awarding trophy to the winners.

"To the winner of the boat-race which is a unique feature of community life in Travancore-Cochin."  was inscribed on the trophy.

Winners of the last year's Nehru Trophy Boat Race - 2014 were Chambakulam chundan.

This year's Nehru Trophy Boat Race is on 8th August, just 4 days short from today.

It is already in the news as Chinese Ambassador is going to be special guest at the event and BJP Minister Nitin Gadkari will be inaugurating.
