Two passenger trains derailed in Madhya Pradesh
Kamayani express headed to Varanasi from Mumbai, derailed near Harda town, Uttar Pradesh, before midnight. Minutes later, Janata express, going from Patna to Mumbai derailed at the same spot.
Harda district PR officer Vitthal Maheshwari said death toll reached 31 with over 100 people injured.
The reason for this tragedy is said to be heavy rainfall which led the soil from the tracks to dislocate.
While Anil Saxena said,
"There was water on the tracks and the bridge was submerged. So, the last bogies of Kamayani Express got derailed. Simultaneously, on the other track, the engines and coaches of the Janata Express also got derailed."
The TV channels have reported some bogies fell into the machak river where this derailment happened.
Prime minister Narendra Modi tweeted on this tragedy.
According to a report, 15,000 people are killed every year in train tragedies main because of less safety measures taken by Indian Railways.
